Leadership Team: Executive Vice President
As the Executive Vice President of Brown & Brown of Ohio, Ben manages the office’s growth, mentors teammates in their personal development, and oversees the performance of the entire Ohio team. In addition to these responsibilities, Ben continues to service a select group of customers where his primary role relates to contract negotiation, plan design, and creating long-term strategies for their benefits offerings. Ben joined the Brown & Brown team when his firm, Great Lakes Risk Management, was acquired in 2008.
Ben earned his Bachelor's of Science degree from Bowling Green State University with a specialization in Insurance and Risk Management. After graduating, Ben co-founded Great Lakes Risk Management in 1986, which grew to become the largest benefits-only brokerage firm in the greater Toledo area. Over the course of his 30+ year career in Employee Benefits, Ben has also served as an advisor to health insurers, governmental agencies, Brown & Brown on a corporate level, and to various members of the media. He holds his Ohio Life and Health Insurance licenses as well as licenses in over 20 other states within the U.S.
When he is out of the office, Ben enjoys being in the outdoors, either fly fishing or deer hunting. He is actively involved with Bowling Green’s College of Business and sits on the Department of Insurance Advisory Committee. Above all else, Ben loves spending time with his wife Jackie, his children and grandchildren.
Leadership Team: Property & Casualty Team Lead
Amy’s role as an Property & Casualty Team Lead is to develop relationships with customers and prospects to understand their risks and provide solutions for their risk transfer strategy whether it be through standard insurance or an alternative program such as a captive. Since she joined Brown & Brown in 2015, Amy has developed a specialization over the past 4 years within the commercial agribusiness space and brings a wealth of knowledge and an aptitude in the field. She also has focuses in the manufacturing and professional lines sectors to complete her broad spectrum in the risk management area.
Prior to joining Brown & Brown, Amy worked within her family’s third-generation business. Growing up in this environment enabled Amy to develop a comprehensive understanding and passion for businesses and how they run. Additionally, Amy is a graduate of Bowling Green State University where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a specialization in Sales & Services Marketing. She holds her Property & Casualty license and is pursuing her Agribusiness and Farm Insurance Specialist Certification.
Amy resides in Bowling Green, OH with her lovable dog. In her free time, she enjoys skiing, camping, and weekend trips to Put-in-Bay. She is an active participant of the Wood County Farm Bureau, EPIC Toledo, Women in Ag, and Toledo Ladies for the Clubs.
Leadership Team: Brand & Technology Leader
Jaron was first hired as an intern with the Property and Casualty department assisting Sharon and the account executives with new business proposals. However, within a year he showed his passion for marketing and branding and worked with Ben to create and transition into the position of External Marketing & Brand Coordinator. Jaron’s responsibilities include ensuring all marketing efforts are aligned, targeted, and speak a collective message. These efforts involve Jaron with presentation and one-pager designs, customer and prospect communications, and working with the National Communication & Branding Committee where he helps guide the brand at a higher level. Along with this, he heads our social media accounts, all event coordination, and manages most IT-based projects.
Jaron graduated from Bowling Green State University in 2017 with a a degree in Business Administration specializing in Marketing and a minor in Music Recording Technology. He has a strong musical and creative background and was involved in the Falcon Marching Band and co-hosted a college radio show. When he is not working, Jaron is either playing music, dabbling in creative writing, or exploring the greater Toledo area with his wife.
Employee Benefits Enrollment Services Leader
As our Enrollment Services Leader, Keia takes the lead on all enrollment services tasks and escalated enrollment issues for our clients’ employees. Along with this, she manages the workflow of our EDI feeds, working towards a consistent stream of information from our carriers to our clients. Additional responsibilities include educating clients on enrollment protocol, eligibility rules, and qualifying life events.
Prior to her current role, Keia was our Benefits Team Assistant when she joined the Brown & Brown team in March 2017. Before becoming a part of our team, she had graduated from Bowling Green State University with a degree in Business Management focusing on Human Resources. Post graduation, Keia was a recruiting specialist for large retail companies. Currently, she holds her Ohio Life and Health licenses and is pursuing her Masters in Human Resources.
Outside the office, you can find Keia either trying new foods and restaurants, working hard on her fitness goals, or playing board games with her family. Her ideal getaway is a long weekend in Chicago.
Employee Benefits Account Executive
James joined the Brown & Brown team in August of 2014. In his role as an Employee Benefits Account Executive, he assists employers in designing and managing their employee benefit plans. He has been recognized within Brown & Brown for his attention to detail and support to all new and existing customers.
Before he became a part of the Brown & Brown team, James had worked in a multitude of Human Resources type positions in the UK, Germany, and even Australia. Through this variety of experience, he had become well-versed in HR and Benefits at an international level. James completed his undergraduate work at Nottingham Trent University in his home country of England. He then came to northwest Ohio and earned his MBA with a Finance focus from Bowling Green State University. He also holds his Ohio Life and Health insurance licenses and has earned the Certificate of Global Benefits Management from the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans.
James currently resides in Toledo, Ohio. He enjoys playing soccer, cricket, and squash in his free time. He is also an active participant with EPIC Toledo, the Epilepsy Center of NOW, the Toledo Children’s Hospital, and the BGSU College of Business Alumni Board.
Shannon joined the Brown & Brown team in May of 2017 as the office receptionist. After seeing her initiative and passion, she was promoted to Executive Assistant to Ben Goff, our Executive Vice President (EVP). She is now responsible for keeping track of priority projects for the EVP, coordinating internal and external meetings, greeting customers and guests, internal office development, as well as a variety of other projects as they occur.
Before coming to Brown & Brown, Shannon worked for the same company for ten years as an Invoicing Specialist, then Cash Application Specialist. There she managed all of the billing of each customer. She not only knew the nuances of each customer’s contract but would also effectively and in a timely manner send the appropriate invoice when needed. Additionally, she managed an average of 250 EFT payments per day as the payments came in.
When not at work, you can find Shannon and her husband of 26 years spoiling their baby grandson. If not, she is probably shouting at the TV during a football game with her family.
